From GMANews (Oct 26): US senator Lugar to visit Manila, discuss nuke threats with PNoy
A United States senator will visit Manila on Saturday for a five-day visit where he will meet with top level Philippine officials to discuss the reduction of proliferation threats of weapons of mass destruction, including nuclear weapons, in Southeast Asia. Richard Lugar will be in the Philippines from October 27 to 31 to discuss the matter with President Benigno Aquino III, Foreign Affairs Secretary Albert Del Rosario, and several other government officials. Lugar, the most senior Republican in the US Senate, had played a role in installing Aquino’s mother, the late Cory Aquino, to the presidency in 1986, according to his website.... According to a press release from the US Embassy in Manila, Lugar’s visit is an effort to expand the Nunn-Lugar Global Cooperative Threat Reduction (CTR) Program, which focuses on dismantling nuclear, chemical and biological weapons and reducing their stockpiles.
