From GMANews (Oct 24): Rebels attack CAFGU detachment in N. Cotabato town—Army
Communist rebels attacked a detachment of the Citizen Armed Forces Geographical Unit (CAFGU) in Makilala town in North Cotabato around 7:15 p.m. Tuesday, a military official said. Lt. Nasrullah Sema, chief of the civil military operations of the 57th Infantry Battalion (IB), said the rebels, under Front 72 of the New Peoples’ Army (NPA), fired seven rounds of M-203 grenade launcher toward the CAFGU detachment of the 38th IB in Barangay Villaflores in Makilala. The CAFGUs fired back. The exchange of fires lasted for five minutes, Sema said. No one, though, was hurt in the attack. The rebels withdrew from the northwest portion of Makilala town toward Barangay Batang in nearby Tulunan town, which the Army believe is a rebel base. Sema said that the 57th IB has sent additional troops in the area to conduct clearing operations. The rebels that raided the detachment in Villaflores were the same group that torched last August equipment owned by Dole-Stanfilco, a banana firm operating in Makilala, the military said.
