New Westmincom chief told to secure peace in area

From the Philippine Star (Oct 24): New Westmincom chief told to secure peace in area

Armed Forces Chief of Staff Gen. Jessie Dellosa directed Wednesday military forces in Mindanao to ensure peace and stability in this southern Philippine region with the impending implementation of the framework agreement forged by the government and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF). Dellosa posed the challenge to Maj. Gen. Rey Ardo, whom he installed Wednesday as the new commander of Western Mindanao Command (Westmincom) to replace Lt. Gen. Noel Coballes, who was appointed as the new AFP vice chief of staff, in a simple turnover of command in Camp Navarro in this city.... Ardo said rebels who will refuse to acknowledge MILF leadership will be considered as lawless elements and will be hunted down by the military. “We have to deal with them. We treat them as lawless elements,” Ardo said when asked of his position on the rebel groups that were aiding the Abu Sayyaf elements in Basilan. Ardo also said the MILF must also revisit their seven known identified camps and review the group's roster of members to determine who are in their ranks to prevent the lawless elements from seeking refuge and sanctuary within their faction.
