From the Philippine Star (Oct 24): P-Noy sends ally to talk to Misuari
The stance of Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) founding chairman Nur Misuari against the framework agreement may soon soften as a result of the Aquino administration's "talks" with the leader of the former rebel group. Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) acting Gov. Mujiv Hataman, who serves as Aquino's emissary, said that Misuari has already refrained from warning of possible war due to the signing of the framework deal between the government and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF). Hataman said that during his dialogue with Misuari, the MNLF founder assured him that any effort to address possible violations of the 1996 agreement would undergo the proper process. During the two-hour dialogue, Hataman said he discussed with Misuari the concept of the framework agreement and that he assured the latter that the pact with the MILF would not violate the MNLF final peace agreement that was forged during the Ramos administration. “I told him that the intention of the Aquino government is to harmonize all the agreements in the coming days to serve the interest of the Bangsamoro people,” Hataman added. Hataman also explained to Misuari that the 1996 final peace agreement that created the ARMM will be honored by the government, contrary to speculations that the framework agreement would effectively nullify the 1996 agreement. “I saw [that] he (Misuari) has no objection, although he has comments, which I believe, [would be addressed thru] a continuous dialogue to explain to him that this (framework agreement) is not a final compact between the GPH and MILF, but just a framework agreement for the continuous peace process,” Hataman added. He said the dialogue with Misuari will resume before the end of this month, while MNLF founder is waiting for the the possible tripartite meeting with the government and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).
