From the Philippine News Agency (Aug 19, 2024): 143 Caraga cops join Tempest Wind Exercises (By Alexander Lopez)
BUTUAN CITY – At least 143 members of the Police Regional Office in the Caraga Region (PRO-13) are participating in the Tempest Wind Exercises, which are being held in Surigao del Norte Aug. 16 to 30.
The Tempest Wind is a bilateral interagency law enforcement counterterrorism drill between the governments of the Philippines and the United States.
“These police personnel joining the exercises are from the different field units in the region,” Maj. Jennifer Omiter, PRO-13 information office chief, said in an interview on Monday.
PRO-13 director, Brig. Gen. Alan Nazarro, said the drill will test the abilities of Caraga cops to react to and take decisive actions in the event of terrorist attacks.
“We will display our operational capabilities by mobilizing our resources and assets to promote peace and order,” Nazarro said in a statement Monday.
He also asked the public not to be alarmed or fearful of the simulation drills, particularly in areas where the Tempest Wind is being conducted.
