Troops of the 8th Infantry (Stormtroopers) Division found arms caches with high-powered firearms and anti-personnel mines. The 74th Infantry Battalion discovered two APMs in Barangay Siljagon, Mapanas, Northern Samar, based on information from a surrendered Communist NPA terrorist.Lieutenant Colonel Jose Roy Manuel Dizon highlighted the danger of anti-personnel mines, which violate international laws.
In Barangay Cagmanipis, Calbayog City, the 43rd Infantry Battalion found an arms cache with five firearms, including an M16 rifle and M79 Grenade Launcher, after a captured CNT revealed the location. Lt. Col. Nasser Arojo mentioned the declining strength of CTG forces, indicating financial challenges.
Maj.Gen. Camilo Z. Ligayo, 8th Infantry Division Commander, emphasized the government's relentless efforts to end the local communist armed conflict for socio-economic development in Eastern Visayas.
