ILOILO City – Two New People’s Army (NPA) rebels voluntarily surrendered to authorities on Tuesday, Jan. 23.
The 69-year-old “Ner”, a resident of Barangay Botbot, Pandan, Antique, surrendered to the Pandan Municipal Police Station around 3:30 p.m. He also yielded a 12-gauge shotgun.
Police said the surrenderer joined the terrorist group sometime in December 1979 under the command of “Ka Ramon.

He was an active member of the District Guerilla Unit (DGU), Panay Regional Party Committee (PRPC) until 1983.
In Negros Occidental, a 71-year-old female NPA member turned herself in to the local government and municipal police of La Castellana.
A resident of Barangay Linantuyan, Guihulngan City, Negros Oriental, she was among those who encountered troops of the Philippine Army’s 62nd Infantry Battalion in the town’s Barangay Sag-ang on Jan. 17.
Major Rhojn Darell Nigos, public information officer of Negros Occidental Provincial Police Office, in an interview said the woman, who is a political instructor of CN1, decided to surrender because of the continued presence of government troops in La Castellana.
The Pandan police station and the Negros police are currently conducting custodial profiling of the former rebels.
The information gathered will be evaluated for eligibility in availing themselves of the Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (E-CLIP).
Police Brigadier General Sidney Villaflor, director of Police Regional Office (PRO-6), congratulated his men for the surrender of the former rebels.
“The regional office remained committed to fostering a climate of understanding and support for those seeking a new path. As we witness this voluntary surrender, let us reaffirm our commitment to peace and reconciliation. We are ready to assist in your reintegration into society.
