ASG MEMBER SURRENDERS TO NFWM
Bagong Calarian, Zamboanga City - A member of the Abu Sayaff surrendered to the Naval Forces Western Mindanao at Bagong Calarian, Zamboanga City on February 22, 2022. Naval Task Force-61 Units under NFWM composed of Navy SEALS and Naval Intelligence Operatives and in coordination with JTF-Basilan successfully facilitated the surrender of the terrorist, who joined the notorious Basilan-based terrorist group sometime in 2016 under the leadership of ASG Sub Leader Furuji Indama.
According to NFWM PAO, the ASG surrenderee whose identity was withheld for security reasons, along with his Cal. 30 M1 Rifle, was formally presented to RADM Toribio D Adaci Jr PN, the Commander, Naval Forces Western Mindanao and witnessed by Capt Alan M Javier PN(GSC), the Commander, Naval Task Force-61 at Headquarters Naval Forces Western Mindanao.
The ASG surrenderee underwent medical check-up at Camp Navarro General Hospital (CNGH) and was found to be in good physical health condition prior to his turning over to the Joint Task Force-Basilan at Headquarters 101st Brigade PA, Isabela City, Basilan for his possible inclusion in the local programs for ASG surrenderees in the province and for his appropriate disposition.
The surrenderee was involved in a series of encounters and ambuscades against government troops from 2016 to 2018 in Basilan Province. Due to the relentless Focused Military Operations (FMO) of the AFP, he then finally decided to surrender with hope of reuniting with his family and to live a normal life.
