A leader of the New People's Army (NPA) and his brother surrendered to the members of the Revitalized-Pulis Sa Barangay in Barangay Manuel Peralta, Malita, Davao Occidental on Wednesday, February 9.

BGen. Edgar Alan Okubo, deputy regional director for administration of the Police Regional Office 11, identified the NPA leader as Ka Bagwis, 38, and a resident of Barangay Pinalpalan, Malita, Davao Occidental. His brother was identified only as alias Bruno Dos, 32.

Okubo said the brothers were members of the dismantled Guerilla Front (GF) 75 operating in the areas of Davao Occidental and nearby provinces.

He said Bagwis was recruited by the NPA some 15 years ago and was a former commander of GF75 of Davao Occidental, a medic, and a political instructor of Daguma Far South Mindanao Region.

The former NPA rebels also yielded two Garand rifles, magazines, various ammunition, a.45 caliber pistol, a secure digital (SD) card containing subversive documents, and a hand grenade.
