The Army’s 79th Infantry Battalion yesterday slammed the killing a former rebel by four suspected New People’s Army rebels on February 4 in Brgy. Cambayobo, Calatrava, Negros Occidental.
The victim was identified as Jimmy dela Cruz, 21, who surrendered to the Philippine Army two years ago after serving the Northern Negros Front, which had been dismantled by the 79IB last year.
Initial police investigations show that the victim and fellow laborers were loading harvested sugarcanes on a cargo truck when four armed men arrived.
The victim was immediately shot in the chest by the armed suspects, who fled the crime scene.
