From Panay News (Oct 24, 2021): IEDs explode; 2 cops hurt (By Ruby Silubrico)
Two police officers were wounded in an improvised explosive device (IED) explosion in Barangay Mayang, Tubungan town yesterday afternoon.The victims were Police Corporal Genel Simpas of the 1st Iloilo Provincial Mobile Force Company (IPMFC) and Patrolman Jessie Castamado.
They were having a foot patrol outside their detachment when two IEDs exploded.
The victims were recuperating at the Rep. Pedro Trono Memorial District Hospital in Guimbal town.
“We are now investigating as to who was responsible for the incident,” said Police Lieutenant Alwin Salmon, Tubungan police chief.
After the explosion, Salmon said an exchange of fire happened between suspected rebels and the police.
The Armed Forces of the Philippines deployed troops to the area. The suspects reportedly fled after several minutes of gun battle.
