Bislig City, Surigao del Sur – The 48th Infantry (Guardians) Battalion hosted the Clustered Livelihood Consultation for People’s Organization (PO’s) spearheaded by Surigao del Sur’s Office of the Provincial Agriculturist March 31, 2021 at 48IB Headquarters, Purok 1, Brgy Maharlika, Bislig City, Surigao del Sur.

25 different PO heads and representatives attended the consultation which aims to identify priority livelihood that would help the PO’s and to establish a more sustainable source of income. Needs assessment, focused group discussion , consultation and an open forum were also undertaken as part of the workshop.

Provincial Agriculturist Mr. Marcos M. Quico led the Livelihood Consulation together with 48IB Acting Commanding Officer Lieutenant Colonel Enrique G. Rafael, Local Government Unit of Hinatuan and Bislig City Agriculture’s Office who subsequently delivered their inspirational messages.

230 packs of upland water spinach (kangkong) seedlings, 20 packs of string beans, 12 packs of tomatoes, 32 packs of ladies fingers (okra) and eight (8) packs of snow cabbage (pechay) were distributed to the attendees during the culmination of the activity. Likewise, 20 sacks of corn seeds/kernels were also given to the corn planters.

” Sa ngayon, kami po ay nagpapasalamat. Sa totoo lang po ngayon lang po kami naka attend ng ganitong forum na kami ay magsasaka with the collaboration of the Philippine Army. When it comes po sa agriculture isa po kami sa nag promote ng organic agriculture po dito” , said Mr Arsolino Cabilin, a PO member who attended the consultation.

Lieutenant Colonel Rafael added, “Masaya po kami na naging bahagi kami ng ganitong programa upang maging daan para sa ating mga magbubukid at magsasaka na mabigyan pansin at solusyon ang mga isyu na kanilang hinaharap. Asahan ninyo na marami pa tayong pagsasamahan upang lalo nating maihatid ang nararapat na programa para sa inyo alinsunod sa Executive Order No. 70 ng ating Pangulo para itatag at paigtingin and Whole of Nation Approach.”
