Three Lanao del Sur town mayors have surrendered seven undocumented firearms as an expression of support to the campaign of President Rodrigo Duterte against the proliferation of loose firearms in the country, military officials said Friday.

Brig. Gen. Jose Maria Cuerpo II, 103rd Infantry Brigade commander, said the firearms consisting of five high-powered firearms and two handguns were surrendered Thursday at the 82nd Infantry Battalion (IB) headquarters in Barangay Pawak, Saguiaran town by Mayor Camaloding Jamal Dadayan of Buadipuso Buntong, Mayor Saidamen Aditong of Ditsaan Ramain, and Mayor Usoph Munder of Bubong.

Cuerpo said the intensified engagements led by Lt. Col. Rafman Altre, 82IB commander, resulted in the surrender of the firearms.

Altre lauded the efforts of the local chief executives and urged all other municipal mayors in the province to be "more relentless in stopping the proliferation of loose firearms."

Cuerpo reiterated his call for the collaborative support and cooperation of the local key leaders and traditional elders to be vigilant in order to achieve sustainable peace in Lanao del Sur.
