CAMP CAPINPIN, Tanay, Rizal – Two high-ranking NPA couples surrendered to the Army’s 203 rd Brigade in Oriental Mindoro after series of negotiations with the religious group from the Seventh-Day Adventist and Catholic Church on Monday, December 28.

Per reports,
alias Elsie and Justin, an NPA squad commander and supply officer respectively, surrendered at Bulalacao town’s Brgy Benli and were the ones wounded during the encounter against soldiers at Sitio Taboy-Taboy on September 14 wherein a female terrorist got killed.

Subsequently, alias Gilbert and alias Delia, another NPA squad commander and supply officer respectively, surrendered to joint efforts of the AFP-PNP forces at Brgy Panaytayan in Mansalay.

Col Jose Augusto Villareal, Commander of 203 rd Infantry Brigade lauded the local officials and the religious leaders for being one with us in saving these abused Mangyans from the hands of terrorism.

“With the abuses that these former rebels suffered within the NPA organization, I am calling on the Gabriela representatives, especially Hon. Arlene Brosas and Emil de Jesus, to side with us and join us in denouncing the abuses perpetrated by the NPA terrorists against the people.”

For his part, MGen Greg T Almerol, Commander of 2ID, commended the NPA couples for their wise decision to free themselves from terrorism as they will soon welcome the coming year with opportunities for a new life.

“These series of surrenders across Southern Tagalog is a clear sign that the NPA is on the verge of irrecoverable defeat.”

The local government units are working closely with the AFP and PNP to expedite the processing of the grants and benefits under rebel returnee programs.

Since 2019, more than 700 terrorists have already surrendered across Region 4.
