Partner agencies intensify RCSP in Agusan del Norte

From the Philippine Information Agency (Oct 2, 2020): Partner agencies intensify RCSP in Agusan del Norte (By TESDA Agusan del Norte)

BUTUAN CITY, Oct. 2 -- In support to the flagship program of the province of Agusan del Norte dubbed as “Agusan Up!,” partner agencies have intensified the implementation of the Retooled Community Support Program (RCSP) in the province.

This, after residents of Brgy. Tagbongabong in the municipality of Remedios T. Romualdez (RTR), Agusan del Norte have underwent training on organic vegetable production.

TESDA-Agusan del Norte Provincial Director Rey M. Cueva said this is through the RCSP for which the primary aim of the training is to provide food security to households which is in line with the directives of TESDA Sec. Isidro S. Lapeña.

Dir. Cueva said residents of Brgy. Tagbongabong will learn how to produce an organic vegetable through backyard gardening. “Right at their own backyard, they will be able to plant and harvest organic vegetables not only for their personal consumption but also as a source of livelihood. Later on, the community will establish a communal garden,” Cueva added.

Dir. Cueva further said the launching which was held recently was made possible through the convergence of the following agencies: Office of the 2nd Congressional District of Agusan del Norte through Congresswoman Ma. Angelica Rosedell Amante-Matba, LGU-Agusan del Norte with the leadership of Governor Dale B. Corvera, Philippine Army’s 65th Infantry Battalion headed by Lt. Col. Benjamin Pajarito, Agricultural Training Institute (ATI) under its Center Director – Samuel L. Alonzo, Local Government Unit of RTR through Mayor Richard B. Daquipil, and the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA)-Agusan del Norte Provincial Office.

The official likewise said ATI has provided trainers as well as the basic tools for gardening such as bolos as well as chicken dung, 31 sacks of vermicompost fertilizers, 90 pots, 30 seedling trays, 31 sweat shirts and assorted seeds.

The Philippine Army, on the other hand, has conducted clearing operations of the area and after having been declared cleared, the agencies came-in to provide basic services to the residents. “… and this undertaking is one of those basic services,” Cueva said.

The RCSP was formulated in order to strengthen the community support program initiatives of the military and making the efforts of the LGUs driven. With the implementation of the RCSP, Local Chief Executives (LCEs) will be champions of the RCSP through their programs, projects and activities (PPAs) that are geared towards institutionalizing sustainable peace and development.

It is also an inclusive program that aims to address identified issues of the community by closing the governance and develop gaps through the provision of needed government PPAs while ensuring that development is sustained and peace is being promoted.

It was learned that Barangays Tagbongabong and San Antonio in RTR are among the areas in Agusan del Norte that are included in the RCSP. Last year, a total of 150 members of the New People’s Army (NPA) and Militia ng Bayan (MBs) in Brgy. Tagbongabong have surrendered to the government troops. (Robert E.
