Brig. Gen. Jesus Cambay Jr., Police Regional Office-9 (PRO-9) director, has ordered the police to tighten security across the region to prevent possible escalation of violence amid the military offensive against the Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) in Zamboanga Sibugay.

Capt. Edwin Duco, PRO-9 information officer, said Thursday all local police units have been ordered to seal all entry and exit points as well as to conduct maritime patrols to prevent the entry of ASG bandits in their respective areas.

Duco said the public has also been urged to remain calm but vigilant and to immediately report any presence of people acting suspiciously in their community.

Five ASG bandits were killed while two soldiers were wounded in a clash Wednesday in Sitio Limuno, Barangay President Roxas, R.T. Lim, Zamboanga Sibugay.

The firefight broke out while the troops were on pursuit operation and caught with the ASG bandits led by Furuji Indama in Barangay President Roxas, R.T. Lim.

Lt. Col. Don Templonuevo, commander of the Army's 44th Infantry Battalion, said Wednesday’s clash was "the result of our pursuit operations against the armed elements of Abral Abdusalam and Sahibad Group led by Indama after our encounter in Barangay La Paz, Alicia, Zamboanga Sibugay dawn of Sunday."
