A barangay kagawad was among the latest victims of the continued killing spree in Guihulngan City, Negros Oriental, where suspected New People’s Army rebels had been tagged by authorities as the perpetrators.
Barangay kagawad Elpedio Julwar Mahinay, 65, was tending to his cow in his farm in Sitio Upper Moog, Brgy. Planas, Guihulngan City, when he was shot and killed on Wednesday by suspected NPA members, a report of the Negros Oriental Police Provincial Office showed.
Police investigations also showed that Mahinay was accused by communist rebels of being an informant of the Philippine Army.
The killing of the barangay kagawad came a day after Rodel Barillo, a co-owner of a Dumaguete City-based security agency, was also shot and killed by motorcycle riding suspects at Plaridel Street in Brgy. Poblacion, Guihulngan City.He succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds and was declared dead on arrival at the Gov. William Villegas Memorial Hospital in Guihulngan City, the police said.*
