The body of an Abu Sayyaf member was recovered by the military last week in Tipo-Tipo town, Basilan, the military confirmed Tuesday.
In a press statement, Western Mindanao Command said the bandit identified as Pau Geh was killed in a strike operation by the 18th Infantry Battalion at Bohe Selangan, Barangay Baguindan on May 8.
Another bandit identified as Adzuan Kajing, also known as Kawang, was severely injured in the encounter.
Kajing was involved in a vehicle-borne, improvised explosive device blast in Lamitan City on July 31, 2018, killing more than 10 people.
He has a standing arrest warrant for multiple frustrated murder in Isabela city, Basilan.
The troops also recovered one fragmentary grenade, three rounds of 40 mm grenade launcher ammunition, and other personal belongings of the Abu Sayyaf.
"While our soldiers brave the danger brought about by the coronavirus, they also continue to risk their lives fighting for peace and security in their area of operations," said WesMinCom commander Lt. Gen. Cirilito Sobejana.
No casualties were reported on the government side.
