CAMP SANG-AN, Pulacan, Labangan, ZDS – Another Maute Terrorist remnant surrendered to Army’s 49th Infantry Battalion in Brgy Sandab, Butig, Lanao del Sur, 9:45 a.m. Tuesday, February 11, 2020.

“The remnant was identified as Mosa Amboto Olama, 33 years old, bringing along his M1 Garand rifle, magazine and ammunitions”,
said Lt. Col. Edgar Allan Villanueva, 49th Infantry Battalion Commander.

“Yesterday, February 10, 2020, two of his comrades surrendered and yielded firearms to our troops”,
added Villanueva.

Olama was recruited by Mahadi Maute, the brother of Omar Maute and Abdullah Maute, whom he fought side to side during the Marawi Siege in year 2017.


Col. Jose Maria Cuerpo II, 103rd Infantry Brigade Acting Commander, who has operational jurisdiction of Lanao del Sur said that, “the continuous surrender of remnants is due to disordered leadership and operational capability”.

“We are also confident with our relentless combat operations that made the remnants and other threat groups tired and hungry which forced them to surrender”, added Cuerpo.

Meanwhile, Brig. Gen. Gene Ponio, the 1st Infantry Division and Joint Task Force Zampelan (Zamboanga Peninsula and Lanao Provinces) commander urge the troops to continue the no-let-up operations against the threat groups in the area of responsibility.

He also directed the commanders to collaborate with the local chief executives, local government units and other stakeholders in order to facilitate the surrendered remnants reintegrate to mainstream society.
