A couple was arrested in Barangay Talalak, Sta. Catalina, Negros Oriental on Friday by a team of police personnel and Army troopers for the crime of rebellion.
Lt. Col. Ramir Redosendo of the 11th Infantry Battalion (11IB) of the Philippine Army based in Siaton, Negros Oriental said the two, who were apprehended based on an arrest warrant, are alleged supporters of the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army (CPP-NPA).
Based on an initial report from the police, the suspects were identified as Luis dela Cruz Ragay, 53; and his wife, Lenie Acabo Ragay, 49; both farmers and residents of Sitio Guitalaokan.
They were nabbed around 6:30 a.m. by a team from the 11th IB, the 1st Provincial Mobile Force Company of the Negros Oriental Provincial Police Office, Bayawan Police Station and Regional Mobile Force Battalion 7, and intelligence operatives.
The couple’s arrest warrant was issued by Judge Marie Rose Inocando-Paras of the Regional Trial Court Branch 63 in Bayawan City on Jan. 2, 2020.
The suspects are now in the custody of the Sta. Catalina Police Station while the court has set bail at PHP200,000.
Redosendo said Luis Ragay is an alleged former member of the CPP-NPA's “Hukbo” group who laid low in the '90s.
He joined the government’s Civilian Armed Forces Geographical Unit (CAFGU) but was terminated in 2013.
