PIER 15, South Harbor, Manila (DWDD) - Two ships from Indonesian Navy, KRI BUNG TOMO (357), a multi-role light frigate and KRI SULTAN ISKANDAR MUDA (367), a SIGMA class corvette arrived for a four-day goodwill visit to the country until November 21.
The Philippine Navy through the Commander, Sealift Amphibious Force, Commodore Ernesto Baldovino representing the Flag Officer In Command, Philippine Navy welcome of the visiting navy headed by Capt. Amrin Rosihan, head of mission. This was followed by a press briefing and ships tour.
A scheduled courtesy call to the Navy chief, Vice Admiral Robert A Empedrad will be conducted with Rear Adm. I Nyoman Mandra M, Sc. the Assistant for Personnel, Indonesian Navy, together with the Commanding Officers of the two Indonesian Navy ships at the Headquarters Philippine Navy in Manila.
Likewise, series of confidence building engagements between the PN and Indonesian Navy are lined up, such as reciprocal receptions, goodwill games, shipboard tour and pre-coordination meeting. A passing exercise (PASSEX) between the vessels of the visiting navy and the designated PN vessel is set to cap-off the goodwill visit.
This goodwill visit reaffirms and further strengthens the already strong relationship between the two navies. It fortifies the PN’s firm commitment of maintaining good relationship with other foreign navies.
Moreover, the Philippines and Indonesia as a neighbor country with many common grounds and are both founding members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nation have a long history of maritime cooperation because of mutual regional security threats, ranging from natural calamities to piracy and terrorism.
