Placer, Surigao del Norte- The 30th Infantry “Python” Battalion and Explosives Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team supervise the disposal of six (6) Unexploded Ordnance (UXO) and fifty three (53) Improvised Explosive Device (IED) in Surigao del Norte on Saturday June 15, 2019.

The UXO and IEDs were either captured, confiscated or recovered by troops from 2013 to 2019 during an encounter with the CPP-NPA terrorist or turnover by PNP and civilians to 30IB for safe keeping and proper management to avoid damage.

As per record, the following UXOs and IEDs were disposed; two (2) UXO of 105mm howitzer, two (2) UXO of 60mm mortar, one (1) rifle grenade, one (1) hand grenade, one (1) gallon IED, five (5) bangalore, ten (10) PVC pipe bomb IED, twenty one (21) GI pipe bomb IED, twelve (12) dual blasting cap IED and four (4) directional IED mines.

UXO are explosive weapons that did not explode when they were employed and still pose a risk of detonation, decades after they were used or discarded while IED is constructed and extensively used by terrorists group to inflict casualty not only to military personnel but also to sow terror to civilians.

“UXOs and IEDs are hazardous items, for the safety of everyone we called the EOD team for proper disposal of the said UXOs and IEDs to prevent damage to life and property, afterwhich we immediately coordinated for a safe place to dispose it away from the civilian populace” Ltcol. Allen Raymund C Tomas, Commanding Officer of 30IB said.

“I call on the attention of all Surigaonon’s if ever you have or see UXOs and IEDs please report immediately to the nearest PNP or Army station so we can call EOD experts to handle the situation to prevent loss of life and damages, your Philippine Army is always ready to serve you and secure our land” Ltcol Tomas ended.
