NSFA, Panacan, Davao City - The Eastern Mindanao Command (EMC) is bound to carry out the construction of a hanging bridge in the hinterlands of Barangay Mapula, Paquibato, Davao City after the Command and GMA Kapuso Foundation Incorporated inked a Terms of Reference at Headquarters EMC here on May 24, 2019.
In the agreement which was witnessed by Atty. Elisa D. Evangelista-Lapiña of Davao PEACE 911, the GMA Foundation will provide the design and will be responsible in sourcing out the financial and other material requirements on the construction of the bridge that will benefit the Indigenous Peoples (IP) community in the area.
Meanwhile, the EMC through the 52nd Engineer Brigade will carry out the construction while the 1003rd Infantry Brigade will be tasked to secure the project.
Paquibato District is an IP area of Davao City which is now a focus of the City Government of Davao to be transformed into a conflict-resilient area through their program "Terrorism to Tourism."
"After we have rid of the area of CPP-NPA Terrorist Group's presence, we have now shifted our focus by supporting this kind of initiative and other peace initiatives of the Local Government Unit of Davao City through the PEACE 911 of capacitating the communities of Paquibato to be conflict resilient," Lt. Gen. Felimon T. Santos Jr. said.
