Four Abu Sayyaf militants died and 11 more incurred wounds in the combat operations of the military in Sulu today, April 5.
Troops of the 5th Scout Ranger Battalion, on clearing operations, discovered an encampment of the Abu Sayyaf in Sitio Atol, Barangay Latih, Patikul at 11am today.
Said camp has 37 fighting positions believed to have been occupied by 80 Abu Sayyaf militants under Hatib Hajan Sawadjaan.
Troops from 21st and 41st Infantry Battalions established blockade and traced possible withdrawal routes of the enemy.
Meanwhile, three soldiers died and 22 more incurred wounds.
Nine of the wounded were evacuated to Camp Navarro General Hospital for further medical attention, while 13 incurred slight wounds and are currently recuperating at Kuta Heneral Teodulfo Bautista Station Hospital in Bus-bus, Jolo.
Eight of those who incurred slight wounds were discharged from the hospital today.
Lieutenant General Arnel Dela Vega, Western Mindanao Command chief, condoled with the families of soldiers who gave the ultimate sacrifice.
“We shall never forget the gallantry, sacrifice, and selfless service of our fallen comrades, who fought hard to bring security and development in Sulu. In our continuing campaign to quell terrorism, we shall always be guided by our sincerity, integrity, and fervor,” he added.
“Your armed forces remain resilient in confronting security challenges in Sulu, and we commit to intensify our tactical operations to hunt and crush terrorists in the area of operations.”
“As true servants and protectors, your WestMinCom troops continue to secure the area and work with the Suluanons to bring the coveted peace in the province,” added Dela Vega.
