Ex-rebels get cash aid

From the Manila Bulletin (Aug 15): Ex-rebels get cash aid

TANAUAN CITY, Batangas – Thirteen New People’s Army (NPA) rebels who voluntarily surrendered in Batangas received financial assistance worth P65,000 and will likewise be awarded various grants from the government as they took oath of allegiance and turned-over their firearms during simple rites here last Tuesday.

The rebel returnees were members of the Platoon Jupiter and Platoon Galaxy both of Sub- Regional Military Area (SRMA) 4C, Southern Tagalog Regional Party Committee (STRPC) operating in Batangas and Cavite.

The event was also served as the launching and maiden implementation of the national government’s Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (E-CLIP) in Southern Luzon.

The E-CLIP is a holistic inter-agency approach of the government to end insurgency peacefully by encouraging rebels to join mainstream society through various grants and compensations which they can use to start-over and become responsible members of the society.

The ceremony was attended by Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) chief Eduardo Año, Department of National Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana, Presidential Adviser for Southern Tagalog Dennis Hernandez, Tanauan City Mayor Jhoanna Corona and other top military officials and local government officials.
