From GMA News (Aug 6): 2 suspected Reds killed in Agusan Sur clash — military
Two suspected New People's Army rebels were killed following a clash with government security forces in Agusan del Sur over the weekend, a regional military officer said Monday.
Captain Anthony Pueblas of the Army's 402nd Brigade's civil military operations, said the encounter erupted around 5 a.m. Sunday at Purol 4 in Barangay Oro in Esperanza town.
Involved in the five-minute clash were elements of the Army's 23rd Infantry Battalion and rebels belonging to the Guerilla Front 88 of the NPA's North Central Mindanao Regional Command.
The operating troops recovered a 9-mm pistol aside from the bodies of the slain rebels, Pueblas said.
The bodies were brought to the barangay center. There were no reported government casualties.
