TUBARAN, Lanao Del Sur (DWDD) – A total of 723 families from the towns of Tubaran and Pagayawan from Lanao Del Sur were evacuated in the midst of an intensified pursuit operation by the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) against remnants of the IS-inspired Maute Group.
According to Colonel Romeo Brawner Jr., Joint Task Force Ranao Deputy Commander, affected families were sent to evacuation centers to avoid being caught in crossfires as sporadic firefights are on-going.
Aside from ground operations, air strikes and artillery fire were also utilized against an estimated 40 IS-Maute members who are holed-up in their bomb-making facility.
There are reports of casualties on the side of the Maute-ISIS group but this will have to be confirmed yet. No casualty has been reported on the government side. AES / ALS / MCAG
