From the Manila Bulletin (Feb 11): Police forces to support anti-terrorism campaign
Police forces will be actively involved in addressing terrorism and insurgency problems, especially in Mindanao, a top police official said.
Director General Ronald de la Rosa, chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP), said that no less than President Duterte has instructed the police leadership to assist the military in running after terror groups and communist rebels.

“There will be adjustments because the President wants us to be involved more aggressively in the problem of terrorism and insurgency,” said de la Rosa.
Although the PNP has its own elite force to run after insurgents, almost all the operations against terror and rebel groups are being carried out by the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP).
“That is the reason why we are expediting the upgrading of our equipment and armaments to help the AFP regarding the problem,” said de la Rosa.
The communist rebel leadership earlier vowed to intensify the campaign against the government following the arrest of some of the peace talks consultants.
On the other hand, dela Rosa disclosed that recruitment is still ongoing by terror groups connected with the Maute Group.
“We are validating reports that there is still recruitment in the Lanao del Sur area,” said dela Rosa.
The official said that once their upgrade is complete, the police assistance will be in northern and southern parts of Mindanao where the presence of communist rebels is strong.
