Dela Rosa dissolves PNP-AIDG

From the Philippine News Agency (Jan 30): Dela Rosa dissolves PNP-AIDG

Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Director General Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa on Monday announced the PNP Anti-Illegal Drugs Group (PNP-AIDG) is dissolved after a series of police involvement in illegal drugs trade and planting of evidence.

The PNP chief made such an announcement during a press conference in Camp Crame, Quezon City.

Dela Rosa said President Rodrigo Roa Duterte has ordered him to stop temporarily the “war on drugs” and instead the PNP should focus on its “internal cleansing”.

”We are under the Executive Department. We take orders from the President,” he said.

”Again, hindi po lahat ng anti-drug units ng PNP ay masasamang tao. May mga bad eggs lang po diyan pero hindi lahat (Not all the PNP anti-drug units are bad people. There are only bad eggs but not all). I am sorry for them,” he added.

”Most of them are performing very well and I am very sorry for their eventual dissolution dahil nadamay sila ng kalokohan ng iba. I am very sorry for them. Marami sa kanila ang nagbuwis ng buhay. Marami sa kanila ang nasugatan. Marami sa kanila ang nagkakaso. Hinaharass ng mga tinamaan nila, counter-charges because of their regular performance of their duties but we cannot do otherwise,” Dela Rosa said.

”Sabi ni Presidente, we need drastic actions and this is the drastic action we are taking right now, dissolved silang lahat,” he added.

The directive of President Duterte to temporarily stop the PNP’s “war on drugs” was prompted by the kidnapping and killing of South Korean businessman Jee Ick Joo last October, which allegedly perpetrated by the syndicate of “scalawag” policemen led by SPO3 Ricky Sta. Isabel and Supt. Rafael Dumlao III of the PNP-AIDG.

The PNP-AIDG headed by Senior Supt. Albert Ferro currently has 330 personnel.

Dela Rosa said he is already tired, ashamed and dismayed over the scalawag policemen who were responsible in such a heinous crime which was committed right inside Camp Crame.
The South Korean businessman was allegedly abducted in Angeles City, Pampanga and subsequently killed inside Camp Crame on Oct. 18, 2016.

Because of this, Dela Rosa immediately dissolved the PNP-AIDG and all the anti-drug units in the regional, provincial, city and station levels nationwide.

Likewise, the PNP chief said he will create a counter-intelligence task force, whose only mandate is to hunt down the police scalawags.

Dela Rosa said the counter-intelligence task force will be composed of 100 PNP personnel which will initially operate in Metro Manila and Luzon area.

He assured that the “war against police scalawags” will be as intense as the campaign against illegal drugs, after which, the PNP will again continue the “war on drugs”.

Dela Rosa said that after the “war against police scalawags”, the “war on drugs” will again continue.
