Presidential Spokesperson Ernesto Abella reminded the rebel
groups on Sunday that "we need to embrace our differences" for the
peace talks to succeed.
"A durable ceasefire is in the works in Norway , hopefully the final peace agreement will
be done soon," Abella said in a speech during the "Gawad
Supremo" award ceremonies organized by the Bagong Alyansa ng Makabayan
held at the University of the Philippines-Film
Center in Diliman, Quezon City .
He accepted the award on behalf of President Rodrigo R.
Duterte, who was recognized for initiating peace efforts between the government
and the rebel groups.
Abella said the President is deeply honored to receive the
award from his fellow patriots.
The Presidential spokesperson assured that the government
will continue to recognize the right to self-determination of the Moro people.
He added that the President "will go the
extra-mile" for the rebels, while urging them "to stay the course
with the government."
Aside from President Duterte, Communist Party of the
Philippines (CPP) founder Jose Maria Sison, who was a professor of the former,
was also given the award.
