Troops arrest terror group’s ‘architect’ in Zambo City

From the Philippine News Agency (Apr 16): Troops arrest terror group’s ‘architect’ in Zambo City

Combined police and military operatives have arrested in this city the alleged 'architect' of a terror group known as the Rajah Sulaiman Movement (RSM).

The RSM is a terror group founded by Ahmed Santos in 1991. The group’s members have been trained, financed and controlled by Abu Sayyaf and Jemaah Islamiah (JI).

Chief Supt. Miguel Antonio Jr., Police Regional Office-9 (PRO-9) director, identified the arrested RSM architect as Melquiades Pabico Abrera II, who carries the aliases of Mel, Lolo, and Mikhail Abdul Asis Abrera, a native of Antipolo City.

Antonio said Abrera was arrested in a checkpoint around 6:30 a.m. Friday in Barangay Sta. Barbara, this city.

Antonio said the troops set up the checkpoint after they received reports that Abrera was sighted in the area.

He said the troops seized from Abrera’s possession a caliber .45 pistol, a belt bag containing two hand grenades and detonating cord and two units cellular phones.

He said Abrera was placed under the custody of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG).

The RSM is still considered active, though it has been considerably decimated and scattered by arrests and military–police actions.

The group’s leader, Tyrone Dave Santos alais Daud, was arrested in March of 2005 in Fairview, Quezon.

The arresting team seized bomb-making components when they arrested Santos.
