Miranda made this statement following his visit to Eastern Mindanao Command headquarters in Davao City Wednesday.

"Lt. Gen. Miranda reiterated current Command Guidance to facilitate AFP preparations for the incoming national elections this coming May 9. He reminded troops to ensure the AFP remains non-partisan and of their obligation to vote and act accordingly as a deputized agency of the COMELEC," AFP spokesperson Brig. Gen. Restituto Padilla said.

Earlier, Miranda, together with Philippine Army commander Lt. Gen. Eduardo Ano visited troops in Jolo, Sulu to check on ongoing operations and ensure the latter are getting all needed support in their offensive against the Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG).

Ridsdel, along with fellow Canadian Robert Hall, Marites Flor, Hall's girlfriend and Norwegian Kjartan Sekkingstad were kidnapped by the ASG last Sept. 21, 2015 from Ocean View Resort in the Island Garden City of Samal, Davao Del Norte.
