MILF: New IMT batch visits BTC

From the Moro Islamic Liberation Front Website (Mar 25): New IMT batch visits BTC

Cotabato City --- Twenty-one days after their predecessors formally bid adieu to the Bangsamoro Transition Commission (BTC), officers of the latest batch of the International Monitoring Team (IMT) went here for the first time on March 23 to give a courtesy call to BTC Chairman Mohagher Iqbal.

Maj Gen Wira Zamrose bin Mohd Zain, Head of Mission of the 11th Batch of the IMT, expressed gratitude to the BTC leadership, MILF Peace Panel Members and MILF Coordinating Committee on the Cessation of Hostilities (CCCH) officers for the warm reception of his delegation, which was made up of Malaysian soldiers and police officers as well as a civilian.

Wira acknowledged the “very challenging period” that IMT 11 has come into.
“We pray that the BBL will move on,” he said.

Wira also asked for the same support and cooperation that have been extended to the past contingents of the IMT.

Prof. Abhoud Syed Lingga, who gave the message in behalf of the MILF Peace Panel, streed that it is really a “time of uncertainty” for all since the Congress failed to pass the Bangsamoro Basic Law.

He urged the IMT to “help us maintain peace on the ground.”

Those who joined Iqbal and Lingga in welcoming the IMT 11 were BTC Commissioners Ibrahim Ali and Melanio Ulama; MILF Peace Panel Secretariat head Jun Mantawil, Engr. Mohajirin Ali and MILF CCCH Chairman Butch Malang.\
IMT 11 commenced its tour-of-duty beginning March 14.

Other officers of the IMT 11 delegation were BGen Dato’ Hj Sanusi bin Hj Samion RMAF (Deputy Head of Mission), Capt Jamaludin bin Hj Sairi RMN (Chief of Staff), Lt Cdr Mohd Syamer bin Osdon RMN (SO Admin/Log), Capt (Dr) Mohd Afiq bin Abdullah (Medical Officer), WO2 Abdul Rahman bin Abdullah (Close Escort), DSP Mohammad Shasharul bin Md Osman (SO1 Info/Sec) and Mr. Mohd Jafri bin Mohd Sharif (CPC Coordinator).

The IMT is one of the structures of the peace process involving the services of foreign military officers whose main task is to monitor the observance of the two parties in the implementation of the ceasefire agreement.
