While stating that it strongly appreciates the release of
Sgt. Adriano Bingil whom New People's Army (NPA) fighters released on New
Year's Eve, the Eastern Mindanao Command (EMC) is hoping the rebel group will
continue with such gestures and stop their extortion activities and senseless
attacks on development projects.
This was stressed by EMC public affairs office chief Capt.
Alberto Caber in a message to the PNA Saturday.
It can be recalled that the NPAs kidnapped Bingil, a member
of the Bayanihan team of 26th Infantry Battalion deployed in Barangay Mahagsay,
San Luis town, Agusan Del Sur last Sept. 19.
He was about to send some money to his family when snatched
by the rebels.
"The EMC is open to talk peace and will accept NPA
members who would like to return to mainstream society," Caber added.
Bingil's release was made possible through the efforts of
Iglesia Filipina Independiente Bishop Felixberto Calang; San Luis Mayor Ronaldo
Corvera; and Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte.
He was freed in Barangay Durian, Las Nieves, Agusan Del
Norte afternoon of Dec. 31.
