A tower bombing caused brownouts in Mindanao
on Christmas Eve, as it incurred damages to the transmission lines of
power-grid operator National Grid Corp. of the Philippines (NGCP).
"The toppling of Tower 25 led to the isolation of
government-owned generating facilities, namely the Agus 1 & 2 Hydro
Electric Plants," the power-grid operator said in an advisory
Friday.
NGCP noted the island lost 58 megawatts (MWs) of power due
to the bombing of Tower 25 at 10:47 p.m. Thursday, which holds the Agus
2-Kibawe 138 kilovolt (kV) line. It is located in Ramain, Lanao del Sur.
On the other hand, the grid operator also pointed out that
its Tower 95 in Carmen, North Cotabato was
also bombed just 15 minutes after the Lanao del Sur blast. It holds the 138-kV
Kibawe-Kabakan lines 1 and 2.
NGCP said Tower 95 was not toppled.
The grid operator said the bombing was executed by unknown
lawless elements.
The Sy-led firm also "calls on the public to report any
suspicious activities on its facilities to prevent" similar bombing-induced
power outages.
NGCP said it will conduct repairs after the areas are
secured.
The grid operator bared the two incidents brings the towers
bombed to 15 this year.
