From the Philippine Star (Jan 1): Sorsogon village chief shot dead
A village chairman was gunned down in Castilla, Sorsogon on Wednesday.
Recto Enovejas of Barangay Macalaya was waiting for his service vehicle in front of a cockpit in Barangay Dinapa at 3:45 p.m. when the incident occurred, said Senior Superintendent Ronaldo Cabral, Sorsogon police director.
Witnesses said the unidentified assailant fled on a black motorcycle with no license plate.
Cabral said the victim was pronounced dead on arrival at the Vicente Peralta Memorial Hospital.
A bullet shell for a .45 caliber pistol was recovered at the scene.
“We want to find out from the victim’s family if he received death threats,” said Cabral.
He said Castilla policemen are coordinating with the 903rd Infantry Brigade to identify the suspects.
