PA refutes NPA superiority claim

From the Philippine News Agency (Dec 27): PA refutes NPA superiority claim

The Philippine Army (PA) denied on Sunday the New People's Army (NPA) claim that it is gaining ground versus government forces.

"The statement of the NPA spokesman in Mindanao is another figment of imagination that aims to excuse their failures and continuous dwindling of strength," PA spokesperson Col. Benjamin Hao said.

Based on Armed Forces of the Philippine (AFP) records, NPA strength of 2,035 has gone down to 1,691 followers this year.

And Out of the 547 NPA-influenced barangays, it is now down to 413, Hao pointed out.

"On firearms count, they lost 101 firearms this year," he added.

The most significant decline was their 29 guerrilla fronts which are now down to 24, contrary to exaggerated 46 fronts as being claimed by the NPA spokesman in Mindanao.

"This claim further negates the fact that they lost one of their key leaders this year in the person of Leoncio Pitao, alyas Commander Parago," the PA spokesperson pointed out.
