According to Yusoph Lumambas, Secretary General of the UNYPAD, “The need for peace building is important for communities with bad experience in peace and order. All of us aim to attain peace. Means to achieve peace is not mere giving livelihood, infrastructure, etc. but implanting Islam in the heart of every people”.

“Among the UNYPAD efforts on peace building include but not limited to youth empowerment through education, community based advocacy, conflict mitigation and Islamic orientations and others”, Lumambas added.

He concluded his message by reminding participants on the importance of unity, solidarity, cooperation and collaboration in peace building”.

IGA President Timothy A. Ijiran presented the Islamic Development Bank Scholarship qualifications’ requirements. He said that courses required are all engineering courses, medical courses, agriculture, forestry and fisheries. It is intended for the financially incapable but deserving student with at least 86% or higher GPA; he/she has knowledge in Islam and a CMCP (Committed Muslim and Competent Professionals).

According to Engr. Ijiran, “Peace starts from ourselves and should be spread out among members of our families, to our neighbors and to the community”.

Guest Speaker Ustadz Nhorul-am A. Abdullah relates the role of youth in peace building to the history of prophets during their younger age. According to him, “Prophet Yusoph (A.S.) promoted values and he was the best example in terms of patience and perseverance, brotherhood and concerns to other people.

Prophet Ibrahim (A.S.) during his youthful days saved people from the hellfire by killing polytheism, while Prophet Mohammad (S.A.W.) is the best example in terms of honesty and kindness during his younger age.

The youth has big role in peace building. Abdullah stressed that the role of youth is to free themselves from Jahiliyyah influence and as a Muslim he/she must perform the purpose of creation in this world.

The youth conference with the IGA-Team Philippines highlighted issues and concerns on peace building. The acting chairman of the UNYPAD-Maguindanao Cluster 2 summarized the issues and concerns that hinder peace building activities raised by the participants identifying armed conflict as the root cause that resulted to poverty/financial difficulties, human rights violations, increased number of Out-of-school Youth, less participation of youth in various aspects and etc.

IGA President Ijiran said that, “We will do what we can to help in terms of peace building efforts. He stressed that financial is not a problem. We will do it step-by-step until we find the way.
