Eastern Mindanao Command (EMC)units are now tracking down
the 50 or more New People's Army (NPA) rebels who torched two vehicles in
Banay-Banay town, Davao Oriental Saturday night.
Destroyed in the rebels' unprovoked assault were a Saddam
truck and Delica van. The vehicles were owned by one Ronaldo Mangosong.
Capt. Alberto Caber, Eastern Mindanao Command public affairs
office chief, said the incident took place 7 p.m. in Sitio Mangway, Barangay
Pintatagan, Banay-Banay.
There were no reported casualties although the Delica van
was totally gutted while tires of the Saddam truck were severely damaged.
"Motive of the burning is still to be determined as no
extortion demand was received by the owner," Caber said.
Civilian reports revealed that the perpetrators were led by
one alias "Bansai" or "Pakat" of Southern Mindanao Regional
Committee of the NPA.
The 28th Infantry Battalion is now supporting the local PNP
in its law enforcement efforts.
Under the International Humanitarian Law, civilians and
civilian properties should not be the object of attack.
