New People's Army (NPA) rebels shot dead a new police
officer who was on routine security duty during the Pili Festival celebration
and procession in honor of Sts. Peter and Paul at 5:30 p.m. Sunday in front of
the Capitol Park ,
Rizal St. ,
Barangay Burabod, Sorsogon
City .
A report identified the victim as PO1 Rolly Dollentas,
assigned with Community Police Assistance Center (CPAC) 3, Sorsogon City Police
Station, and resident of the city.
The report reaching Chief Supt. Victor P. Deona, Bicol
police regional director, said two young-looking rebels, aged about 15-20 years
old and armed with .45-caliber pistols, approached Dollentas and shot him on
his head and body.
Dollentas' companion, PO3 Rhea Laganzo, was stunned by the
speed of the execution but was able to draw her gun.
Laganzo, however, could not fire at the assailants due to
the presence of a dense crowd, among which the killers blended.
The suspects made good their escape by boarding a motorcycle
and sped off.
Laganzo rushed Dollentas to the Sorsogon Doctors
Hospital but her fellow
officer died on the way.
The rebels failed to get Dollentas' service firearm, which
is now in the custody of his superior.
