Military deploys more troops in captured BIFF lair

From the Philippine Star (Jun 11): Military deploys more troops in captured BIFF lair

The military on Wednesday deployed more combatants in a newly established lair of the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF) which it overran on Sunday after three hours of skirmishes.

Soldiers learned of the presence of the new BIFF camp in Barangay Macalag in Datu Unsay town in the second district of Maguindanao from farmers in the area.

Combined combatants of the 601st Brigade and the 10th Scout Ranger Company managed to drive away the occupants of the camp on Sunday after staging attacks from different directions.

Local officials said four BIFF members were wounded in ensuing encounters.

Captain Jo-Ann Petinglay, spokesperson of the Army’s 6th Infantry Division, said soldiers recovered from the abandoned BIFF camp a rifle, combat uniforms and ammunition for assorted firearms.

Petinglay said soldiers will now guard Barangay Macalag tightly to prevent the BIFF bandits from coming back.
