During the first six months of 2015, a total of 82 New
People's Army (NPA) fighters have voluntarily surrendered to units of the
Compostela Valley-based 10th Infantry Division.
1st Lt. Vergel Lacambra in a statement forwarded to the PNA
said reasons for the surrender of these rebels include their desire to be with
their loved ones, hunger, unbearable hardships in the mountainsand
disillusionment over the lack of cause of the rebel organization.
The ranks of these disaffected NPA fighters are expected to
further rise in the coming days, Lacambra added.
“We are calling on our brothers and sisters who are just
being deceived by the Communist Party of the Philippines-NPA to grab the opportunity
of living a peaceful life. The best option for them is to abandon the futile
armed struggle,” 10th Infantry Division commander Major Gen. Eduardo Año
concluded.
