DSWD to roll out P294-M Kalahi-CIDSS projects in SOCCSKSARGEN

From the Philippine Information Agency (Feb 18): DSWD to roll out P294-M Kalahi-CIDSS projects in SOCCSKSARGEN

KORONADAL CITY, South Cotabato  --   The Department of Social Welfare and Development is gearing up  for  the implementation of  P294-million worth of  development  projects  in various municipalities across  SOCCSKSARGEN Region, an   official of the agency  here  announced.

The  projects,  according to   Regional  Director  Bai Zorahayda Taha,  will be carried out  under the  expansion of the   national  government’s  flagship  poverty reduction program Kapit Bisig-Laban sa Kahirapan-Comprehensive and Integrated Delivery of Social Services (Kalahi-CIDSS)

Taha said, 16 towns in three provinces  are currently getting ready for the implementation  of  several community projects.

“Beneficiary towns are now in the preparation stages including the conduct of assemblies, workshops, identification and prioritization of community projects, request for fund release and other activities,” she said.

The amount, according to Taha represents the total municipal grant allocation based on the 2010 population census, 2009 poverty incidence survey  and income class of each municipality.

Nine municipalities will be granted with maximum allocation amounting to P20 million each including Pikit  in  North Cotabato;  Glan and  Maasim in  Sarangani;  and Lambayong, Lutayan, Palimbang, Bagumbayan, Isulan and Lebak,  in Sultan  Kudarat.

Other  beneficiaries  and  project allocations are as follows:  Aleosan (P12.51 M), Banisilan (P13.96 M), Alamada (P19.88 M)  in North Cotabato;  Maitum (P14.58 M) and  Kiamba (P19.20 M) in Sarangani, and  Senator Ninoy Aquino (P15.22 M) and Kalamansig (P18.56 M) in  Sultan Kudarat.

On the other hand, municipality of Carmen in North Cotabato is now on the process of enrollment to be the 17th beneficiary town in the region under the Program.

Carmen municipality  will be allotted  P20 million  for various community projects, once the Program starts to roll out in the area.

For the  implementation  of the  projects, recipient  municipalities  and barangays  will   contribute  counterparts in cash and  in-kind,  Taha  added.

Kalahi-CIDSS  is one of the government’s flagship poverty-reduction programs implemented by DSWD.  It has been recognized as an international development program awardee by the United States Treasury.

Kalahi-CIDSS utilizes the community-driven development (CDD) strategy proven to be effective in empowering communities, improving local governance and reducing poverty in various communities.

It gives communities control over resources in transparent ways through an inclusive local planning, budgeting, and implementation.

Kalahi-CIDSS expansion is a P43.9 billion Program through a grant from World Bank and Asian Development Bank  and set  for  implement from 2014 to 2019 to benefit 847 municipalities in the country.

Kapit Bisig-Laban sa Kahirapan-Comprehensive and Integrated Delivery of Social Services (Kalahi-CIDSS) program is part of the Philippine government's holistic approach to addressing poverty/insurgency in the countryside. The program targets conflict-affected and at-risk communities for economic development activities while the military and law enforcement seek deter/degrade insurgent capabilities.
