PHL on right track in campaign against terrorism

From the Philippine News Agency (Dec 14): PHL on right track in campaign against terrorism

Despite the announcement of UN counter-terrorism experts that the Philippines is not hosting radical elements of the Islamic States of Iraq and Libya (ISIS), efforts are still underway to ensure that terrorism will not make a foothold in the country.

This was stated by Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) spokesperson Col. Restituto Padilla Sunday.

He also said that the UN announcement vindicates what government and military officials have been saying all along.

This only shows that the Philippines is going the right path in the campaign against terrorism, Padilla stressed.

"Did not the UN earlier laud the Philippines for taking measures to prevent the spread of terrorism (e.g. adoption of the Human Security Act and Anti-Money Laundering Act). The government continues to explore other means by which we can strengthen the fight against terrorism and among these (steps) is to ensure the development of (the countryside)," he added.

Another step being done is the steady passage of the Bangsamoro Basic Law, which once successfully enacted into law, will spell peace and development, progress in Mindanao, he added.
