ZAMBOANGA SIBUGAY – A grenade attack on the house of a former soldier-turned-trader has damaged his car in the town of Ipil in the southern Filipino province of Zamboanga Sibugay, police said.

Police said the attack occurred at around 12.38 a.m. on December 29 at the house of the 55-year old Efren Lopez at Purok Bayanihan in downtown Ipil.

It said the lone attacker fled on a motorcycle after tossing the M61 grenade that landed in front of the house where it exploded. Lopez’s car was damaged from the explosion.

Police recovered the safety lever of the grenade and are investigating the attack. There were no reports of casualties. No individual or group claimed responsibility for the attack.
