South Korea to give LCU, other HADR equipment to PHL

From the Philippine News Agency (Jun 3): South Korea to give LCU, other HADR equipment to PHL

The South Korean government has committed to give a landing craft utility (LCU), computers and 16 rubber boats to beef up the Philippines' humanitarian assistance and disaster relief (HADR) capability.

This was disclosed on Tuesday by Defense Secretary Voltaire Gazmin who said that this commitment by the Seoul government was made during his meeting with his South Korean counterpart Kim Kwan-jin over the weekend.

The DND chief also took the opportunity to express his thanks to the South Korean military contingent helping in the ongoing rehabilitation works in typhoon "Yolanda"- battered Palo, Leyte.

Gazmin said that the LCU will be operated by the Navy.

No other details were immediately available regarding the exact arrival date of the South Korean ship.

LCUs are used to ferry troops and other equipment to areas where larger ships, by course of their large draft, are unable to dock.
