The National Democratic Front-Negros has condemned what it claims to be “landgrabbing” operations of prominent individuals, multi-national corporations and even government officials in Negros island, allegedly in connivance with government agencies, including state authorities.
In a press statement, NDF-Negros , through its spokesman, Frank Fernandez, accused Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr. of using his position to allegedly land-grab the 147 hectares lot of farmers in Murcia, by converting it into ranch for imported sheep and cattle, and for use by DOLE Philippines.
Fernandez also claimed that alleged land grabbers enlisted the help of the Philippine Army, police, and even members of the Revolutionary Proletarian Army-Alex Boncayao Brigade in taking over lands intended for farmers.
He also criticized a certain Yanson for expanding his oil palm and rubber plantations in Basay, Negros Oriental to Damutan Valley in Hinobaan, Negros Occidental, in the areas being cultivated by indigenous people.
Fernandez also slammed the Sola family for their alleged landgrabbing activities in Kabankalan City, using the military and police units, as well the Gatuslao family and the Mosser Foundation in Himamaylan City.
He claimed that the Del Monte company started its maneuvering to take over the land occupied by agrarian reform beneficiaries in La Castellana, La Carlota and in Brgy. Ma-ao, Bago City, while Mayor Jose Max Ortiz and former Board Member Nene de la Cruz were also accused of alleged land grabbing by farmers in Salvador Benedicto.
The intensified Oplan Bayanihan campaign of the AFP and PNP, with the help of some civil society groups and non-government organizations, led to more violations of human rights, Fernandez also claimed.
