Unthinkable in the past, high-ranking officials of the 6th Infantry Division stepped inside the Moro Islamic Liberation Front’s Camp Darapanan in Sultan Kudarat, Maguindanao, not in war but in peace.

The visit is to show the military’s support for the recently signed Comprehensive Agreement on Bangsamoro and the growing solidarity between the government soldiers and MILF rebels, said 6th ID Commanding General Romeo Gapuz.

No one wants peace more than soldiers, who risk life and limb every time there’s fighting in Mindanao, said Gapuz.

Also in attendance at the People’s Victory for Peace celebration were the top officials of the Philippine National Police, the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM), the International Monitoring Team, and other local officials.

Gapuz thanked the MILF leaders, headed by MILF Chairman Ustadz Murad Ebrahim at MILF 1st Vice Chairman Ghadzali Jaafar, for the warm welcome at the camp.

The celebration in Camp Darapanan was an initiative of Shariff Aguak Mayor Bai Zahara Upam Ampatuan.

The signing of the agreement will quiet the hearts of the women of Mindanao, especially the wives and daughters of MILF and government fighters, said the mayor.

Those who joined the peace celebration also watched the Pacquiao-Bradley boxing match together at the Sultan Kudarat gym.
