From the Sun Star-Manila (Apr 11): 2 MNLF arrested in Bukidnon
GOVERNMENT security forces have arrested two alleged "generals" of the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) for possession of a firearm and ammunition in Kadingilan, Bukidnon on Thursday, police said Friday.
A report from the Bukidnon provincial police office named the suspects as Heneroso Calma and Cresildo Calayca, both members of the MNLF who hold the rank of brigadier general.
The MILF signed a peace agreement with the government in 1996. A faction of the group under MILF founding chairman Nur Misuari is opposed to the peace agreement recently signed by the government and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front.
The report said Calma and Calayca were nabbed by police and military forces at a checkpoint in Sitio Kibagsil in Kibogtok village around 4 p.m. Thursday.
"Both suspects are alleged members of the MNLF Northern Command," the report said of the suspects, who yielded a cal 45 pistol, ammunition, a magazine and a hunting knife.
Police said Calma and Calayca, who were clad in camouflage Army uniform when arrested, failed to present legal documents covering the firearm, thus they were detained. Investigators are preparing a case against the two.
