Interior Secretary Manuel Roxas II Friday expressed belief some 30 members of the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) faction of Nur Misuari are still holed up in Zamboanga City and now the subject of continuing clearing operation there.
”Those still inside (the operation area) are estimated to be more or less 30 (followers of Misuari),” said Roxas in a broadcast interview.
”So, meron pang grupo sa loob at talagang house to house, room to room ang clearing operation ng AFP (Armed Forces of the Philippines) at PNP (Philippine National Police),” he added.
On the other hand, Roxas said that authorities believed that around five hostages are still being held by the MNLF followers of Misuari.
The DILG chief said that based on the accounts of rescued hostages, they have not seen any more hostages with the MNLF forces while they were still in captivity.
So far, Roxas said that government security forces have already rescued a total of 178 hostages since the followers of Misuari, numbering about 300, occupied several barangays in Zamboanga City last Sept. 9.
A total 209 MNLF supporters of Misuari are now detained in connection with the siege.
